INDICATIONS

Parlodel lowers prolactin levels. Prolactin is a hormone important for the production of breast milk and for normal fertility in women.

Parlodel is used to treat disorders such as amenorrhea (lack of a menstrual period), persistent breast milk production, infertility, and other conditions associated with high prolactin levels caused by prolactin-secreting tumors in women and in men.

Parlodel is also used to treat Parkinson’s disease, which is associated with low levels of dopamine in the brain. Parlodel has effects similar to those of dopamine, which makes it effective in the treatment of the stiffness, tremors, spasms, and poor muscle control associated with Parkinson’s disease.

Parlodel is sometimes used together with surgery or radiation in treating acromegaly, a condition caused by a pituitary gland tumor that produces too much growth hormone.

Bromocriptine may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.

INSTRUCTIONS

Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Do not take in larger or smaller amounts or for longer than recommended. Follow the directions on your prescription label. Your doctor may occasionally change your dose to make sure you get the best results.
Take bromocriptine with food. Parlodel is usually taken twice daily with meals. Cycloset is usually taken each morning with food, within 2 hours after you wake up.

To be sure this medication is helping your condition and not causing harmful effects, your blood may need to be tested often. Your heart, blood pressure, vision, kidney function, or liver function may also need to be checked. Visit your doctor regularly.
